Ive been trying to find 8 people on the 1881 census, but have only managed to find 1! Is it just me? I know at least 2 should be there as they married/had children within a couple of years of this. Ive been using SP, as I cant find a census anywhere else. Any suggestions? |

God, LOADS!!!! BRIDGET DOCHERTY (nee wynn) b. abt 1826 - IRELAND Should have hubby: ANTHONY/ANDREW DOCHERTY b. abt 1823 - IRELAND They're on the 1871 census at 303 Cowgate, lady yesters, Edinburgh, with their children, who im also looking for. Their children on 1871 census are: MARY DOCHERTY 15 edin JOHN DOCHERTY 14 edin MICHAEL DOCHERTY 12 edin THOMAS DOCHERTY 7 edin PETER DOCHERTY 4 edin I know its very possible that the eldest 4 have left home, married etc., but i still cant find them! I can also find no trace of ANTHONY/ANDREW'S death, which is making me think that maybe they left Scotand. Ive got Mary on the census, married. Thomas got married in Edinburgh in 1885 and Michael had children in 1878 and 1884, again, in Edinburgh. Any help would be fantasic. Thank you so much for the offer! xx |

Anthony and Bridget were agricultural labourers in 1851. I think Anthony has had the same kind of profession on all certs ive seen. (farm labourer, gardeners lab., ag. lab. etc.) |

Jodi I have searched the whole of scotland & they seem to have vanished in 1881, have you found Bridget or Anthony's deaths? Maybe they went back to Ireland for a visit. I will search for a while longer & then I am off to bed. Georgina. |

I have Bridgets death in 1891. She died in cowgate, edinburgh. She was widowed some time before 1885, but after 1878. The whole fact that they were agricultural labourers in the 1840/50s, has got me thinking about the potato famine, and how they must have been a part of it somehow. Maybe they went somewhere to find work, didn't succeed and came back? I don't know. Ive been searching for Anthony in particular for absolutely ages now! If i could just get his death cert. id be a happy little bunny! Thank you so much for spending so much time looking for me. You must be shattered! I know i am! Thank you georgina, you really are one kind lady. :-)))) xx |
