Same Address Given

I have got several old marriage certs, where the same address is given for both bridge and groom, and I cannot see that on each occasion the wedded couple were living together. Can anyone suggest any other reaso? Vicky

They probably didn't live in the parish at all, which was necessary to entitle them to be married in the parish church, and had 'established' residence on a temporary basis, purely to satisfy the residency test. Alternatively, they were living in sin. It happened a lot. Count the proportion of your ancestors where the first birth is less than nine months from the wedding. I tease my Mother in Law about it all the time, but I soon lost count ...

It was fairly common for one party to 'lodge' at the home of the other, if they resided in a different parish, for the statotory 3 weeks. This meant that the banns only had to be read in the one parish. Jay
