But there's very little left of WW1 records cos these were badly burnt in an air raid in WW2 those that survive are known as the burnt records and are held at Kew. What you may find is his medal card and you search for this online at the National Archives website. put his name in the search box on the home page . As I have previously posted you can get now his marriage cert with the GRO ref i posted

well hes on the CWGC site as died 2/12/1917 and commemorated at the Cambrai Memorial Louveral, I gave you the marriage ref in 1910 I would certainly get the cert .will tell you his age & poss his father. If he was illegitmate then looking for the birth cert in his mums maiden name may help

If he died in WW1 was he in the Forces? If so his Army/Navy record may have information that could help. That info is at Kew if it wasn't destroyed in WW2, like my GGrandfathers :((( Chris

Ok he died in 1917 and his wife was born 1891, not sure how old he was, or when he was born :0(

His marriage cert will only show the name he married under. What time period are you looking at because lots of 'adoptions' were unofficial arrangements would try first with the marriage cert Heres the marriage ref:- Dec 1910 Luton 3b 925. Would def get that cert as a start

Im trying to find out about my great grandad, I know his name was George frederick warner, possibly born in Luton and lived there, married Katherine Bacchus and had one child, my nan. He died in WW1 and i have his death dates and details, but i cant find anything about when and where he was born. There is talk in the family that he was adopted, born out of wedlock and links to a greengrocer. How would i find out his birth name? Would it be on his marriage certificate? Is there any way of etting more info about him, possibly going through the WW1 connection? many thanks
