I have looking for a relly called Sarah Clough born 1811 born in Bersdale Yorkshire not as I can't find ' bersdale ' i thought it might be a misheard ' Birstal' She only appears on one census as she died in 1860... now on IGI I have found a Sarah CLOUGH christened in Birstal but IGI says she died in infancy ... now I would like to confirm this is correct so I can rule it out as my Sarah .. would any one know where to start? There are 3 entries on IGI for Sarah Clough - christened 25 Aug 1811 in Birstall Extracted entry gives parents as Henry and Margaret The second one is submitted by a member The third one is also submitted by a member and gives a date of death with parents of Henry and Peggy. Maureen

Karen, I've looked at the image and I think you're right about Birstall. I did think it might be Bedale, but it doesn't look much like that. Do you know where she and William married? It might be and idea to have a look at the marriage record to see if the witnesses give any clues.

But surely if she was 40 when she died in 1860, she would have been born in 1820?? OC

Jim , you have the right record ... but the transcribing is very bad ' Church ' is Charles Sarah's age is 41 and the surname is definitely BENFOLD not BENFORD place of birth is Berdall but I am pretty sure its Birstall ..
