Not necssarily in Prison for an offence. He could be a Prison Warder. I have 2 born in a London Prison, but the father is an Assistant Prison Warder and they had living in quarters at the prison. My ancestor went to a London Prison as an Assistant Warder at the end of his army career. The Prison concerned was connected with the Army in some way. You can usually find out more from TNA (The National Archives) Janet |
