Not necssarily in Prison for an offence. He could be a Prison Warder. I have 2 born in a London Prison, but the father is an Assistant Prison Warder and they had living in quarters at the prison. My ancestor went to a London Prison as an Assistant Warder at the end of his army career. The Prison concerned was connected with the Army in some way. You can usually find out more from TNA (The National Archives) Janet

walter pawley born in leciester in 1881...believed to go in army in colchester.. frank pawley born in leicester in 1886...aston prison???

who can you find out if some one was sent to prison... and how do you find out if they were in the army, regiment, discharge etc??? many thanks x
