Can someone tell me how I go about tracing an ancestor who emigrated to USA?? I only have his name and full date of birth. I have no idea when or where from or to. Is this too little information for me to find him?? Terry

Kathy, He was John Morris Dickie Smith born in Largo, Fife on 15/4/1891. Parents were Charles Smith and Agnes Turnbull. This is all I know. Thanks for any help you can give me. Jane, Thanks I will try that site. Terry

Kathy, Thanks for trying - I knew the name would make it difficult. Terry

Lisa J in California

Hi Terry. I checked WWI draft registration cards and didn't see anyone who fit. I don't know if everyone was required to fill out a card (provided he was even in the States at that time). I also checked Library and Archives Canada http://www*collectionscanada.ca/index-e.html (replace * with .) (click on Archives) in case he went to Canada, but there were numerous Smiths. If there's a chance he ended up in Canada, it might be worth combing through some time.

Lisa, Thanks for trying. I am going to quiz an old relative to see if they have any more information.
