Thanks Michael I tried that, it still won't do it. Any files I copy won't relocate to anywhere! I shall try a system restore, then I reckon I shall have to ring Microsoft! Thanks to everyone for trying to help, it's much appreciated. When I find the answer I shall let you know, just in case anyone else has this problem Regards Ann

Select the files you want to put on cd then copy & paste them to the drive where the blank writeable cd is already inserted. To do that just click Start & My Computer then paste to the drive. Verify that you have copied them by exploring the cd after you have done the above. Regards,Michael

Ann - XP native CD burner doesn't support DVD burning. Will your data fit on a CD as this will probably work OK? If it won't fit on a CD you'll have to go to other software like Nero or DeepBurner. You can download DeepBurner for free (at www.deepburner.c o m) good luck Jeff

Thanks for your help Liz, yes as far as I know they are correct for the writer. I got them at the shop when I bought the writer. I had a look on the Event Viewer, Ron but it didn't show on there.Sorry, I am a novice when it comes to the technical stuff. How do I know what I am using? I suppose I must be using XP (media player?) Where do I get nero from, can I download it from the internet? Thanks for your advice + help. Regards Ann

Try, control-panel, administration, open event viewer for details when error 16389 showed, click on the url, this opens help/support in xp,usually with a fix or answer. What software are you using to try and burn the info to CD, are you using XP itself ? If you are try using Nero. Ron www*genealogyprinters*com

I doubt I'll be much help, but are you using the right disks for your type of CD/DVD writer? Also, I presume you have cd/dvd burning software? Liz
