Birth registration wasn't compulsory until 1875..........he may simply not have been registered. You can check this out yourself by going to the Ancestry website, and looking through the images for births.......which are free. But, if he was 24 in 1873, he would have been born in 1848/9..............not later. Reg

please could any one help I have a marriage cert from GRO but i am trying to get a birth cert the marriage cert says that he is called George Vaudray married 1873 to eugene mary jane benson williscroft he was 24 and she was 22 they married in manchester. I have tryed to get a birth cert from gro and they said a george vaudray was not born at that year so how do i get a birth cert now i am very stuck. What else do i do to get this information could any body help me. I asked for a birth cert for 1850 - 1852 but had no luck
