For anyone keeping up with this thread the certificate hasn't arrived yet!

Bridie Report 9 Oct 2006 21:50

Hi The difference this time is that I downloaded the application form, asked for a search and sent the whole lot off in the post whereas I have previously only ever found the GRO reference first and ordered on the net. It is a bit like torture though that they must have found what I am looking for straight away (or how else do they work out how much to charge my card) - yet it then takes 3 weeks to divulge that information. Roll on October 19th - seems a lifetime away!!

No certificate again so I have rung and asked as our Polish postman brought mail for someone else today! It seems my request was put on the system on 27th September and despatch is 15 working days after that so I make that a despatch date of 18th October. If only I'd not looked at my bank account on line I wouldn't be sitting here living in hope!!

Hi Bridie have you got your certificate yet, I'm eager to know as I have been following your thread. I know what it's like hanging on for the post every morning. If you haven't and ONS have taken your money you really ought to contact them and see what's happened to your cert, hopefully not lost in the post. Regards

Cheers for that Paula! That really isn't helping :( Anyway it's been a bad day here. Polish postman came early - brought son lots of cards but no certificate..... you don't want to know the rest but it finished with arriving home from restaurant tonight & son realising he'd left his brand new (birthday present today) game probably in the restaurant ... and me driving back there an hour after we got home to ask the staff to look for it ..... So now I'm not hoping for a certificate to arrive tomorrow (it's Sunday after all), I'm hoping for a phonecall to say a 2' square nintendogs game cartridge has been found under the table we were sitting at!

Here's hoping our Polish postman brings the certificate in the morning and hasn't or doesn't post it through somebody elses door!!! Didn't get chance to ring the GRO today as I had to dash round preparing for number one son's birthday tomorrow. I don't want to endure another weekend with no certificate.

Re slow arrival of certs from Southport. When I phoned them last week about one I'd ordered and not received, I was informed they are 'trialling' TNT as a cheaper option to Royal Mail and my cert did finally arrive with TNT details on the envelope. I think we should all complain to Southport if our certs are taking longer than their anticipated delivery time because of TNT delays. Barbara

Ok I've just about run out of patience now - might have to ring them and ask for a despatch date. ......

I thought if I didn't post yesterday to say the postman hadn't brought my certificate it might arrive today. No such luck! And now it's raining so if it is in the system somewhere chances are it will arrive all smudged and wet - yuk! Just feeling fed up - want it now!!

Mmmm! When I started this with my father-in-law's birth cert which gave mother as Eliza Minetta Heath, late Pearson, formerly Garrard..... my husband immediately said .... 'that's it - uncle Fred was Fred Pearson'. I have the marriage certificate for Eliza and George Pearson, I have the birth certs for her later 2 children and their marriages, deaths etc. mapped out but Fred eludes me still! Father-in-law was born in 1920, his sister in 1918 and Fred sometime before that ... we'd an idea he was 6 or 8 years older but as both boys lied about their ages to join the navy and father-in-law was orphaned by age 8 there's not a lot to go on. So - anyone else ordered a certificate on line on 28th September & what is the despatch date???

also, it's possible that he was illigitmate and born even before her first marriage...

Bridie Their marriage took place in Shoreditch - did you already search for births in the Shoreditch area soon after (or even slightly before) their marriage date of 1903? Just as an example, I found this birth listed: Name: Frederick George Pearson Year of Registration: 1897 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Shoreditch County: London, Middlesex Volume: 1c Page: 78 Still, that's just a shot in the dark. I guess we shall all have to wait until the cert arrives in the post then you can let us all know what they found for you.
