Can I trace a marriage in Italy?

I have an Anthony Saverio Appleton born in Ancona,Italy about 1832, s/o Thomas Appleton and Giacinti Carancini. Thomas was a joiner, and was presumably from UK as a descendant is definitely a 'cousin'. Can I find the marriage anywhere, and would it give his place of birth or any other details to help place him? Wendy |

1. the Italian White Pages shows that there is still an Appleton (Robert) living Ivrea near Torino (Turin) in te north of Italy about 150kms from Bergamo/Parma area. http://www.paginebianche.it/index.html 2. The IGI shows that there were Appletons in the Parma area in the late 1800s probably moved to USA. 3. IGI shows Carancini were in 1`780-1802 in Parma area. 4. IGI does not appear to be very strong in Italy unless these were both small families. and I guess that the British name was small family. 5. You state that the baby was born Ancona which is some distance from Bergamo, Parma or Torino. 6. You have several options - a) write to the priest at the church in Ancona asking whether he has any information regarding the marriage of the parents you have named. b) write to the church in Salsomaggiore, Parma asking whether he has any record of the lady - Carancini c) write to Roger Appleton asking whether he is able to help or has any record of his ancestors in Italy. The Italian White Pages is online and you need only put the surname in the top box to find the complete address of Robert. If you do not speak Italian you will find a sample letter to a church at : http://www.genealogienetz.de/misc/letters/let-pas.html. Sorry, I am not an expert on Italy but guess that their system probably follows same as most European countries. Good Hunting. |

Hi Wendy, If you need any help translating a letter in to Italian, I will be glad to help. My husband was Italian and I spent 20 yrs over there. Unfortunately, I still havent got round to doing his side of our tree, because I know I'm going to have a lot of problems. Ann |

Many thanks Ann for your kind offer. I have today written to Signor Robert Appleton [in English with 'Puo parlare Inglese per favore' as an intro hoping that makes sense!!] As he has such an English name I am hopeful he may speak English!
