Have you found Caroline and Adolphus in 1881, as far as I can see, they are also missing. Jennifer |

Click on 1st Battalion, then scroll down the years to 1881, it says Colchester immediately above Egypt. Jennifer |

jennifer, just had a look at that site, and its great. it said that the regiment were in egypt in 1882, which i was hoping, as there was a rumour in our family, that he was only in the army for a short time, but that he served in egypt. however, i couldnt see where u found that they were in colchester in 81 |

Ages on death certificates are notoriously unreliable, he was almost certainly born in 1856, he was four years old on the 1861 Census. This looks like his birth Name: William Pudney Year of Registration: 1856 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Colchester County: Essex Volume: 4a Page: 216 Jennifer |

Yes found it on Ancestry. Might be worth someone checking the image for a second opinion. No idea what the regiment is. Maureen |

He was most likely abroad in 1881, your best bet will be to search for his military records in The National Archives in class WO. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk Jennifer |
