Was there not a message on here a little while ago from Judy in the States about a Trojan infecting this site? Went to make a cup of tea, came back - and I can't find it! Did I dream it? Chris

Willow Report 10 Sep 2006 16:05

The powers to be zapped it.

Chris Report 10 Sep 2006 16:10

Good grief - WHY? Are we not supposed to protect ourselves now? What is happening here? Chris

Anything that shows this place in a negative manner appears to be zapped. This will probably be zapped in a few minutes.

Did not see the message. Can anyone recall what it said? Picked up a Trojan myself a couple of days ago and have been blaming my son! Now wondering if maybe it was not his fault! (Have managed to get rid of most of it, just left with an irritating pop-up). Tina

I cant remember word for word, but Judy was saying something like her antivirus detected a trojan when she came on here.

TinaTheCheshirePussyCat Report 10 Sep 2006 16:27

That's rather worrying. Judy in the States knows what she is talking about. Tina

If they hadn't zapped it, they would keep getting messages asking them if it was true, and different users would be telling their friends that they'd heard the story, and so on and so on. Unfortunately, the boards' design and administration is such that there is no mechanism for a nice, friendly, reassuring moderator to be able to 'pin' a message at the top of a board; all the staff can do is zap threads.

there zapping everything bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz be us next, its censorship gone mad, and they never answer any of my emails.

Andrew They managed to pin a message at the top of the boards when they shut them all down the other day. Tina

Incidentally, just because your anti-virus software says it's identified a trojan, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's correct. Not that one should be blasé about it, of course.

Tina: That's not an unfair point, but wasn't really what I had in mind. If you make use of other forums you're probably familiar with the concept of 'stickied' and 'locked' threads, neither of which exist here.

Thing is Andrew, Judy wouldnt jump to conclusions, she is a puter buff - runs her own puter company in the states, so should know what she is talking about.

Ann, a sticky is a post put up, usually by a moderator with some sort of information, it is called a sticky because it alway sticks at the top of the board. Ann Glos

Talking of Judy - has her computer maintenance thread disappeared? Though I cant see what could be offensive in that?

Willow

Willow Report 10 Sep 2006 17:48

The 1 stop maintenance one? thats on page 2 now.

I find this very strange? I came home from work on friday having not been on pc all week, checked my email, deleted all that was not in my contacts list, then read and replied to the rest, logged on to GR for half hour to catch up then because i needed to do some internet banking, I always delete my cookies and empty the temp internet files and do a scan of my system just to be on the safe side before login onto the internet bank and as soon as i started the scan it came up that i had been infected by a trojan when i checked it out it was spyware i think? my antivirus sorted it out though, so did i get it from my contacts emails or this site, i have not got a clue but reading this thread makes you think. We Members have been asking for Moderators for years, but, as with all the other suggestions we have made to improve the ease of use of this Site, they have chosen to ignore us. This is why so many of us are reconsidering whether or not to renew when our current memberships run out. A great pity really because this has the potential of being an excellent resource if only the Powers that Be were not so arrogantly dismissive of the members. Jim (Currently in Torquay)
