I have just found my great great great grandparents on the 1851 Census. Ancestry has transcribed them as Pott(born c 1816)and Honvi(born c 1811)Devitt both born in Ireland, one of their sons is also named Pott. Has anyone heard of these names or have they possibly been misread. Any help appreciated. Brenda

Pott looks like Patt, and Honvi looks like Honor to me.

Hi Helen, I did ask Sean(a very nice Irish gentleman working next door)and he seemed to think Pott could be a nicname for Patt - Patrick? and Honvi might be Gaelic. Just wondered if anyone else has heard of them. The writing on the census for Honvi isnt very clear. Brenda

As I said, Pott looks like Patt (probably a mistake for Pat, a pet name for Patrick) and Honvi looks like Honor which is indeed a female name. That's what they look like on the census image.
