Marriages Abroad anyone know?

If you got married in a carribean county does anyone know if your details are registered in the uk, are you able to look for a marriage index? I have a marrige cert, but wondered if I am shown as married in the uk. thanks catherine xx

I think the index's only go up to 2004.not sure. catherine xx

I can't find them so it must be a no. I have found their son so I know they are under the names that I am expecting. Now how are your descendants suppose to complete their family tree?

My nephew got married in Sri Lanca ( spl?) Catherine and I cant find his on ancestry that was in 1999. So maybe not ??? Germaine x

You would surely need the overseas stuff and that's not on Ancestry! It's on 1837online and Family Relatives. Merry

I did try 1837 Online so I don't know but in 100 years time Catherine's descendants will be on here saying that they can't find her marriage and it all must be a lie etc etc. Fancy having a wedding in a nice place!

Catherine, I got married in Cyprus a few years ago, just been looking at my legal stuff - Marriages solemnised in a foreign country cannot be registered in the UK. However, it is possible, in some instances, for a record of your marriage to be kept at: The ONS General Register Office Overseas Section Snedley Hydro Trafalgar Road Southport PR8 2HH Tel: 0151-471 4200 This is not done automatically so it is up to you to contact the office to arrange to send them any necessary documentation.
