Like Sheila, I've come across several Iliffes in Leicestershire, and went to school with at least one.

It is worth trying to connect to the newspaper family as according to Wikipedia: 'Lord Iliffe and the rest of the Iliffe family holds (2006) an estimated fortune (according to the Sunday Times Rich List) of £200m' !!!!! Mark

Iliffe is quite a common name in Leicestershire. I have Iliffes from Hinckley in my tree and was at school with some more. A connection to Lord Iliffe (the newspaper magnate) would be even better, but there are enough Iliffes around to make that unlikely I would have thought. If you get back to Hinckley give me a shout. Iliffe Press is/was the name of a major publishing house (technical books and magazines). I don't know anyone with that name but I hadn't thought of it being particularly unusual. J
