Glen, - A little tip - If I may !! First type - 'see below', then, Type your whole message in the little box. then Cut the whole message, except for the 'see below:' then post 1st message, then click 'add message' and paste the whole lot back in......... This will save you the 5 minutes. (and the rest of us from getting 'over-excited' in anticipation) !! Dea x |

Glen In Tinsel Knickers | Report | 3 Sep 2006 11:53 |
Ok then after the debacle with Ms Holland (don't think anyone is daft enough to marry it) i have added stronger words to my threads, but only SINCE the goings on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Had two messages yesterday. It seems i have caused some upset to some peeps. Extracts from the messages include 'you sit on your a**e all day and do nothing to help anyone' 'you use offensive language in threads' 'you don't have a clue what you are talking about anyway' 'you aren't funny' Funny thing is,both messages were from people in my contacts list who have approached me for help in the past. One was a long trawl through the index (some months ago now,and a positive result) The other was a request for census help, again approach to me,not a thread.Again a trawl and i saved the images, sent them to the person and never heard anymore. The census request member decided to pm me and send the same message to my personal e-mail too. To those two people,i won't stoop to reporting you for abuse, nor will i bother to post your member numbers or names. You don't warrant the extra publicity. I know from your membership details you were both born in the 1950's by x-ref to name searches. Act your age,not like you were born in the late 1990's,and next time you need a trawl through the bmd or census, look yourself. It might pay to look at some threads too,i think it fair to say i DO add some useful info to a fair number of threads here. Steam vented. Glen |

Sorry Mandy, Perhaps I did not make myself clear (I think this may save Glen 10 minutes instead of 5 - Tee hee). What I meant was: When you put up your thread title, then type in 'see below' and post it, then add a message and type it all in while people wait to see what you are putting.. INSTEAD, When you type in the thread title and the 'see below' - Instead of posting then - continue with the whole message. THEN, Use cut and paste - i.e. - cutt everything except the words 'see below' and just post that. Then immediately click on 'add message' and paste what you have already typed - this message can then be posted without delay . Does anyone understand? Dea x Sorry Glen to have used up half your thread almost before you have had time to speak. Dea Xxx |

Wow Glen, that is amazing! I can't believe that anyone would say that about you of all people. You are always very helpful and I have never seen you put anything offensive in your threads, and I've read quite a few, ( bit of a fan, but don't tell anyone! LOL) You just have to take a deep breath & ignore them, although I'd probably name & shame as well. Lynn (no1 fan) |

Dea.... I see what you mean now. I think! Just to reiterate, write all the message to start with, then cut and paste it into a new window so it looks neat and tidy! (Leaving see below behind!) Glen, very sorry, we have hijacked your thread. I can't understand these people who target those who are so helpful! Mandy |

Glen You know what I'm going to say and that is TAKE NO NOTICE. They are jealous of yor board popularity, jealous of the fun we have all been having (often at YOUR expense) jealous because they don't have a sense of humour, jealous because they are too stupid to find their own rellies..... Do what most of the rest of us do, start a blacklist and stick it to your monitor! And a message for those who pm'd you: The people who muck about the most on this board, by and large, are the very people who do the fastest look-ups for ANYONE, sort out their families for them, help with tricky situations, and are endlessly patient with questions that needn't be asked on this board anyway - google would give all the answers. Nobody is hijacking anything, and i'm not heading for the sympathy vote (too late the election has gone). But just sometimes some people forget that they needed help, asked directly without being invited to do so,and were given that help as best i could, not for payment,or for thanks but just for the fact that i could (though thanks are always nice to receive). They will have to make other arrangements next time though. Glen |

Hi Glen, so what if you did do those things? They dont have to be around you! From what I see, you are a much liked and useful member of the boards and I have never seen anything to make me think otherwise. Laura x |

Glen, Why are some people extremely rude? I am shocked to know that both these ungrateful bodies were born in the 1950's. I thought that was an era of respect for other people. My daughters were born in the 1960s and taught good manners and behaviour. They would never dream of insulting anybody the way you have been. I thoroughly enjoy your threads and find them very informative. Keep up the good work. Jean x. |

I remember you helping me a few weeks back about researching mariners at Kew. You even sent me some info about the details I could expect to find. Not to mention the other stuff you have advised me on. More gracious than I would be Glen, name and shame is what I would do. We could all avoid them then. Rgds, Jeanne |

Unfortunately it never changes, there will always be some nasty people on these boards,as there are in life in general. I used to do so many look ups, but then I got tired of the few ungrateful complaining people who soured my days. Such a shame because most folks are so grateful for the help they receive. I stopped offering help for over a year, but am now back with my burial thread. I spend more time on that than I do on my own tree. Nothing has changed though, I get some lovely messages from some people, but no response at all from others. I am a firm believer in what goes around comes around,so just ignore the nasty ones and concentrate on the nice ones. Linda (who voted for you) |

Glen. Hang on while i ajust my sunglasses. That tinsel is blinding me! I have to say that you are one of the many wonderful members that lift my mood when the going gets tough. I have been close to tears of frustration trying to find my rellies. But when i start reading the threads that you contribute to i am crying tears of laughter! Ignore the children who want to act their shoe size and not their age. And thank you for your help in the past and hopfully the future! Vanessa |
