I don't know what you were doing wrong, but I found it by putting in thomas as first name, DI* for the surname, so it picked up anything starting DI..., and I put staff* in the keywords box. Description Medal card of Dimsdale, Thomas Corps Regiment No Rank South Staffordshire Regiment 8631 Private Date 1914-1920 Catalogue reference WO 372/6links to the Catalogue Dept Records created or inherited by the War Office, Armed Forces, Judge Advocate General, and related bodies Series War Office: Service Medal and Award Rolls Index, First World War Piece Denham W - Everitt H Image contains 1 medal card of many for this collection 64704 / 4883 Christine

go to http://www.nationalarchives(.)gov(.)uk/search/quick_search.aspx?javascriptenabled=True&searchtext= remove brackets type in Thomas Dimsdale on the left under results by subject, click on all subjects. then click on Armed Service and the top one appears to be the one you are after as the service number matches with what you have found on the CWGC
