Afternoon all, On a marriage certificate where it says age, what does of full age mean? also next to someones name, x his mark mean? Many thanks, have a fab weekend, Sally |

Full age means anything over 21. Or supposed to be unless they were telling porkies! X his mark means the person signed with an X. Does not necessarily mean they couldn't write, but usually assumed to be the case. Anne |

Of full age means over 21. x his mark means he didn't sign his name but made his mark. Possibly because he couldn't write but not always. Heather |

The other hazard is that they may not have been over 21, but just said so so that they didn't have to demonstrate parental consent! Christine |
