Liz.... breeding ferrets and wearing clogs is no guarantee that you will have good ideas! ;-) (Puts on tin helmet and ducks under parapet) |

Oooh, Paul, what a wonderful idea! I would head up a squad to arrest, detain, imprison (and possibly behead) the person on Pedigree Files AND One World Tree, who has my poor old 4 x GGM giving birth to 44 children, marrying her own son five years before he was born, going to the US on the Mormon Trek, having several children (and husbands) on said trek, then coming back to Lancashire and giving birth to her last child at the age of 69 - three years after she died. That's the FIRST one - there are many more on my list.... OC |

But Paul......many people who add rubbish to their trees don't want to be told they are wrong, even in the most kind or subtle way!! What's to do about it????? If you get cross that doesn't do you any good, either. I have learned to live with all the trees online that have another woman standing in for my 4xg-grandmother, plus now the ancestry of the wrong woman too and I'm just starting to see the descendants of the wrong woman's brothers and sisters and her parents brothers and sisters appearing too. I would stake the lives of all my family that they are wrong and I am right in the research, but no one will take any notice! Merry |

We need our own Police Force with powers of arrest and detention. I'd like a warrant to get hold of some people's trees. |

Gillian I have come to the conclusion that some people just don't want an accurate tree, if it means they have to abandon all their eagerly collected 'internet people'. Seven people on GR have one branch of my tree from 1700 onwards. They are all wrong and they all copied each other's information (but not mine). I got so furious with constant hotmatches that I emailed three of them, telling them that they cannot POSSIBLY be descended from the sibling of my 7 x GGF, because that sibling died age 2. Its in the Parish Register - but it isnt on the Internet. Those three people still have their wildly incorrect information on here. Last time I ever offer any 'free' information to anyone. OC |

Yes, but Gillian and Crone, surely by allowing people to muddy the water like that, this wrong information will be passed around the genealogy community and become perpetuated. I'm not sure I agree with this approach, even though I respect your motives. |

I do that also Paul and very useful it is too (even if it does mean doing a people-jigsaw with all the names!) Bev x |

Paul I dont see anything wrong with that. I do it sometimes too, but I always check data as well with the census and BMD indexes. |

More power to you Paul! I'm sick of messaging people and not getting any reply- why do they bother to register on this site? Thanks Allie |

Liz..... From the Home page, go to Search for People, then Name Search. You may need to narrow down the date range to make it more manageable. |

I do it too - but only so that I can have a good snigger at where they have gone so tragically wrong ....which they would know about, if they had replied to my messages! OC |
