I just looked at tribal pages and it has a new connection service - only two matches to my tree and both connections to major branches of my family with a lot of shared names. A much nicer suprise than today's E mail from Genes that they have had two thousand Cox's added in the last fortnight. I can't wait. |

If you go to Edit and put in your password, its on the first page on the right hand side. really useful as it gives you the trees and the names it matches. it matches names and dates, so i guess if the dates are different it wont match, but even if one name matches you can get in contact and see what else they have. |

Tribal pages is a site that gives you free web space to upload your tree. I just read the bit that came with the matches and it is matching to birth and death dates so much more likely to be a match. I had all the matches A-W in one go so I could see which branch of my family they were interested in. |

I can't see any matches - do you have the free version or the paid for one? Sam x |

I have the paid version, but maybe you just dont have any matches yet. mine arent a match of a line i want to connect to and funnily enough they are quite a small line, but if we all add our trees hopefully it will be a better match than here |

I have the free version but I do have a directory listing. My match has found the probate details for some of my relatives so I have the value of the estates they left. It looks as though I have quite a lot of details he needs as well. It is so nice when you are in touch with someone who has obviously not just copied your tree fourth hand. I only noticed the matches today so maybe they have not got to you yet. I think death date is a good idea as they won't be sending details of living people or children. |

I just thoughtI would mention tribal pages again. I think with the problems genes are still having it might be an idea for people to put their tree on another site. Anne |

I had noticed the matches too, and am busily looking at an ancestral line for my wife which I had taken to 8GGF, but which someone else has carried all the way to the Domesday book. Very interesting. If the line proves credible, then we have one each - which is nice. I suppose we all have ancestors in the Domesday Book, but it's the steps in between that are troublesome! Tribal Pages (having overcome my recent GEDCOM import problem) seems to be a very good resource, and I have upgraded to the Standard Site (so that's my GR renewal fee spent, ha! ha!), and am very impressed with the printable charts. |

I do find tribal pages very easy to edit and it displays pictures well. I have added pictures of the houses my ancestors lived in as well as the local pubs and churches which seems popular with my Australian relatives. |

I only put my info (Gedcom) on tribal pages 2 days ago. It was so quick and easy I was amazed. I am not a paid member and on going in to edit and then seeing where it says connections. I find I have a match! WOW. I love the way that you can add photos easily too. If you haven't tried it already do give it a go. |

Oh wow, Annie! Thanks for that - I just went to my TP and found the connections bit, stupid me, I had seen it before, but it said 'One family Tree' and I thought it meant mine lol. I have now left a message for the other tree holder - the names are identical and there is no doubt this is a genuine contact. Thanks again for pointing this out! OC |

Oh, thanks everybody for explaining where to find it. I have connections to 2 trees, but I am sorry to say they look about as useful as hot matches! One is a William Smith (say no more), and the other just about as common a name, with a non-matching middle name and born on a different continent! Interesting to note that one of my 'matches' appears to have traced his / her tree back to Ethelred the Unready....! Kate. |

TP have also set up a new style search facility which enables you to type in the name and death year of an ancestor and if there are any matching entries on Tribal it will give you the list. Go to TP main page (not your own) and click on SEARCH at the top. Then click into Family Tree Websites. Enter your search and the results will appear. NB - only sites where this function has been enabled will show up. (For example, I have disabled this function on my tree for now so none of my tree info appears if being searched on). Clicking on each of the names then brings up the whole of that person's family (e.g. parents, spouse, children etc) so you can see at a glance if someone has a real connection to your tree. It gives the name of the tree at the bottom of the page and a clickable link to contact the tree holder. For those of you with TP sites - you might want to have a look at this and decide if you want your tree to be searchable or not. I noticed an error occurring with my data, which is why I removed it until TP sort it out. |
