Well, talktalk will send you more filters - Ive got spares here as I left the old wanadoo ones in and just plugged in the new modem.

Val, I hope you got this sorted.....they should have told you that every phone required a filter.....BT asked me how many phones I had in the house and sent a filter for each of them.....there is also the possibility that it could be a faulty filter, this happened to a friend of mine and when it was replaced...hey presto it all worked. Heather I do hope there is no charge for this service as its cost me a small fortune this last few days between Talktalk and Tesco I do have a crackle on the line so will ring BT again , but they told me Tesco should get on to them to check the line not me. I cannot win thanks a lot for your help Val

Hopefully when you do get talktalk and set it all up things will be ok. If not you have them to sort it out. When I got mine set up I couldnt understand how to do the email address changes - I rang their technical and thought it would be a 50p a min job but the chap there said they were free for the first two weeks of installation. Hopefully they still are and if you still get this when you get your talktalk broadband they will sort it. I know all the probs I had with wanadoo like this was a real pain and they were no help at all. I spent about £15 on their technical line one day and in the end a new bloke I rang said Oh, we are simply overloaded at the moment, try this different log on addy,. I was grateful to sort it but so angry that Id spent a whole day being told it was my puter, my phone line, me not knowing my addy!!!, and lastly that my system had been hacked and I should check all my secure passwords. After all that it was just their service being duff. Im so glad I changed.

Val, From what Heather has said are you between ISP providers ie Tescos and Talk Talk? If you have finished with one and not got a date for the next this could be your problem. It is up to the ISP provider to ensure that your phone line is ISP ready, but Heather is right in saying that if there is a fault on the phone line then BT are still responsible if you pay a line rental to them. If you have a date and have reched it has anything else changed? ie extra phone in one of the bedrooms or additional sky box? all of these things require a filter. Pain I know but for every phone and skybox in the house you require a filter. I had sky multi room and the guy didn't put in a filter on the skybox upstairs, couldn't connect to broadband and wondered why, luckily spotted why almost straightaway.....Do feel for you it is a pain when something wont work and you dont know why. Hope that any of the above helps. Fuzzy x

Heather when I ran BT the automatic system said that this number is not one of theirs ???? so I am wondering whos it it then ????

Heather

Heather Report 29 Jul 2006 11:03

No Val, talktalk are only paying your line rental to BT, if you read the contract you will see BT still takes responsibility for the line if it has faults. You havent got more than one anti virus program on there have you? Or two firewalls?

back for a little while probably yes the right hand light keeps blinking , yes Heather you are right but Talktalk should check the phone line if it is now theirs surely as BT said it has nothing to do with them now. Judy thanks again but I dont know which programme is causing it , I cannot even get a dial tone when I switch the PC on sometimes either. Helen yes I know about 12 years olds too clever. Properly fed up

Heather Report 29 Jul 2006 09:53

Val, you arent on talk talk yet are you? When they take over the line from BT nothing actually happens, it just means that you pay them for the same line and they pay that money on to BT. If you are still with tescos broadband then it is them who are rubbish. You were still on Tescos when all this disconnecting stuff started. I didnt think you had a date for talk talk broadband yet?. Have you got a fax machine or answerphone which could be cutting out your connection?

Val, Am guessing that it is the right hand light on the speedtouch dial that is blinking, this is the ISP filter light. This happens to me from time to time, sometimes you can get away with going to start and connect to braodband and dial other times there is no option but to re-start computer, once you have done this and the light is constantly on you should have no problem connecting and staying connected. You cannot connect to the internet if the light is flashing. Let me know if it happens without the right hand blinking, as it could then be a setting on the internet options, mine was kicking me off every 20 minutes and i could not understand it, when I checked the internet options, it was set on disconnect if idle for 20 minutes!! Adaware only removes the junk generated by programs that have downloaded themselves on your PC.....the actual program(s) causing the problems need to be uninstalled using your PC's ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM feature......any questions feel free to give me a shout. Judy

Best of luck Valerie. There is nothing more frustrating than technology not working is there? We argued for days with provider and BT before we got problem resolved - and as I say the children gained an unfortunate extension to their vocabulary as husband tried to make wretched thing work. If one more smarmy 12 year old had asked if we were sure it was plugged in I think I would be serving time now! Good luck. Helen x x x

Sorry, most contrite, I am not cheerful - I'm just a teeny bit tiddly! Husband says our problem was due to an old BT Homehighway box. the master socket was set up for digital transmission which interfered with any other digital transmission - so we needed a new box on the wall. Do you know if your broadband is connected to your master phone socket or a secondary/extension socket - this can cause trouble and you need to plug filter thingies in. If you are plugged into master socket you can unscrew the front panel and inside you will see another socket - plug your broadband directly into this second socket - this will eliminate an internal/in house problem - and save you £35 call out fee.Apparently you should not mention doing this to BT. You see - you'd far rather have me than him wouldnt you!

Helen stop sounding so cheerful I am sitting here after being out all day and cannot do a thing as it keeps going off

Helen

Helen Report 28 Jul 2006 23:33

I'd just go with beating it with a large stick - husband has more technical approach - but doesnt necessarily seem to work better. Apparently our windows firewall attacked our new firewall so he had to turn windows firewall off. We also had lots of trouble when we first went onto broadband. Husband seemed to resolve this by shouting some extremely rude words at the pc - although he claims it was something entirely different. BT said our provider hadnt done some switchy on thingy - provider said BT hadnt turned something on at a box - went on for days. I was about to go back to carving runes on tablets of stone personally before it miraculously started working again. Helen x x x

Happened to me a few months ago. Contacted the ISP and they said that there was nothing wrong with the modem or the connection. A work mate said to try this. Press Ctrl, Alt and Del together and Taskmaneger will come up. Delete sections at a time until you stop getting disconected. Then delete one at a time until you get the right one. Don't want to delete the proceess that is doing it all together in case it hurts puter. So I do this when I switch on the puter. Spud

You haven't added anything have you? We had the same problem a while ago, turned out that for some reason we had 2 firewalls running and they were conflicting.
