Thought some WW2 records were there, sorry. Have you tried putting his name into the London gazette online? They published the names of people who were awarded war medals. Janice

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 19 Jul 2006 17:02

Cost of records is £30,payable in advance. You have to sign a kinship form, showing who is next of kin,(records are supposed to go to next of kin only)and if now deceased enclose a copy of the death certificate. They ask for DOB and/or service number,if you cannot quote either one or the other of those they will not release the records. Just had my application form today, but can't get anything because of the death cert requirement. Glen

What's the death certificate requirement (Glen's message), could you tell me what that means? I'd like to get my grandfathers records but I haven't got his death certificate yet - do I need it as proof? Mind you he'd be 99 now if he was till alive, and I wish he was I have sooooooo many questions. Thanks Michelle

Mark Report 21 Jul 2006 12:37

Just to let you know there is a large backlog with the WW2 records search at the offices in Glasgow. I applied for my Grandfathers records in Feb and had a reply to say my application had been received but there was a turnaround time of between 6-8 months. I'm still eagerly waiting for my info. Best of luck with the search. Mark
