Just noticed when checking my contact list. If you scroll down a bit it says to go to account details and there you can hide living rellies. Its hides anyone born in the last 120 years unless there is a death date. About time. Margaret |

It does work You can view your tree with all names and details but others viewing your tree just get living relation. I checked by opening my tree to a friend and then checked my tree from her house last night. Definite plus point Well Done Genes. Sue |

What worries me is if you export from your FTM - all your notes end up on GR. I wish there was a way of stopping that rather than going through everyone deleting anything you dont want seen. |

I've put this on the three main boards. Perhaps we should keep it nudged. Like most things on GR you have to scroll down to spot the fact that you can now privatise names. Margaret |

Helen, Im not the expert, hopefully Peter or Ron may see this. If you do a gedcom you do have the facility to go and hide all living relatives before you export to the gedcom. If you click on the help tab on the program it does actually make sense when you check out most things (well sense most of the time). You can also choose who you dont want on there. Cant say Ive had a prob re the no country or incompatible dobs, but then its a long time since I put my stuff on GR. Cant be faffed with it! |

Helen What would be the point of that? You would never get any contacts. If you dont want people copying your tree, then dont give anyone access to it. Margaret |

Thanks for that Margaret. I spent 3 days 2 weeks ago deleting people after one of my contacts complained about putting living people onto genes. Why didn't GR make it more obvious?! |

They're a bit late, like Michelle, I've already deleted all my living rellies. Never mind. Jean |

Heather, I've not used my FTM for a while, been away and then got tied up reading these boards and not doing any new research but I seemed to think that when I exported my FTM tree at one point I thought I had the option whether to include notes or not. As I've not had it open for a while, I may have remembered wrongly, but I've seen it on one program I've used. I certainly don't want all my FTM notes on GR & that's one of the reasons that I've held back from updating my tree on here. Claire |
