Mystery with a family name ~~~~~~~~~~ On Hugh Wallis I have a Mary Rice who married a John Madeley 25/11/1791~~~~~ the Rice name is carried down and given as a middle name to a gg aunt one Margaret Rice Madeley, which is confirmed on her birth cert, in 1858.~~~~~~~~~ However, if I put the Rice name in for the ancestors of Mary going back, nothing is showing on Hugh Wallis.~~~~~~~~~~~ In LDS on IGI, this name is given as Price, even to the old spelling Pryce with a 'Y'~~~~~~~~~Likewise on the census' As I can think of no other way of determining what the name is meant to be~~~~~~~~~~~which do you think is the safest bet?~~~~~~~Jen |

The records you found on the LDS site are sometimes not very accurate, check and see if the entry has got a batch number or if it was submitted by a member, if it has a batch number then it has been transcribed from the parish records, if it has got a submitter you will need to clarify the info as to how accurate it is. Roy, You were perfectly right, just been off to re~check the name, which I had not noticed initially. On LDS the ones under Price don't appear to have a batch number but, the Rice name does....................which backs up Hugh Wallis and the birth certificate. So I am deciding to settle on Rice, as you pointed out, it's obviously safer, as it is likely to be the correct spelling. Thankx a bunch..........or should that be batch! LOL Jen |
