OK - I'm looking for Hannah Grubb b. Winslow, Bucks c1840. The family originate in Bucks but have always travelled around to wherever the work was. So I have traced them from Bucks to Wales to Dudley and to Yorkshire. 1841 - Living in Bucks with Family -------------------------------------------------------------- Fanny Grace abt 1831 Winslow Buckinghamshire Ann Grubb abt 1821 Winslow Buckinghamshire Hannah Grubb abt 1840 Winslow Buckinghamshire Willm Grubb Junr abt 1821 Winslow Buckinghamshire 1851 - Still Living in Bucks with Family -------------------------------------------------------------- Ann Grubb abt 1822 Winslow, Wife Winslow Buckinghamshire Fanny Grubb abt 1782 Padbury, Mother Winslow Buckinghamshire George Grubb abt 1850 Winslow, Son Winslow Buckinghamshire Hannah Grubb abt 1839 Winslow, Daughter Winslow Buckinghamshire John Grubb abt 1846 Winslow, Son Winslow Buckinghamshire William Grubb abt 1818 Padbury, Head Winslow Buckinghamshire 1858 - Marriage to John Norman 1858 Oct-Nov-Dec Brixworth Northamptonshire -------------------------------------------------------------- 1861 - Married to John Norman -------------------------------------------------------------- Hannah Norman abt 1841 Spratton, Northamptonshire, Wife Spratton John Norman abt 1838 Spratton, Northamptonshire, Head Spratton William Norman abt 1860 Spratton, Northamptonshire, Son Spratton 1871 - John living on his own (recorded as Married) -------------------------------------------------------------- John Norman abt 1837 Spraton, Northamptonshire, Lodger St Giles Northamptonshire 1871 - Is this Hannah living with Charles Hill ? -------------------------------------------------------------- Charles E Hill abt 1848 Spratton, Northamptonshire, Head St Giles Fanny A Hill abt 1868 St Giles, Northamptonshire, Boarder St Giles Hannah Hill abt 1841 Winslow, Buckinghamshire, Boarder St Giles Harry Hill abt 1867 Stuckborough, Warwickshire, Boarder St Giles Mary A Hill abt 1870 St Giles, Northamptonshire, Boarder St Giles Note: Charles is also from Spratton and is also a Shoe Maker (as is John Norman) 1881 - Hannah Hill and Charles are now married (or so they told the census man :) -------------------------------------------------------------- Charles Hill abt 1843 Spratton, Northamptonshire, Head Brightside Bierlow Yorkshire Elizabeth Hill abt 1873 Northamptonshire, Daughter Brightside Bierlow Fanny A. Hill abt 1868 Northamptonshire, Daughter Brightside Bierlow Hannah Hill abt 1841 Winslow, Buckinghamshire, Wife Brightside Bierlow Harry Hill abt 1867 Shugbro, Warwickshire, Son Brightside Bierlow Mary A. Hill abt 1870 Northamptonshire, Daughter Brightside Bierlow Note: Some of Hannah's Nephews are also in Brightside Bierlow. Jospeh and Benjamin Grubb Hannah stays in Yorkshire for both 1891 and 1901 Census entries. So is Hannah Hill my Hannah Grubb? Was Hannah Hill once Hannah Norman? I havnt found a marriage for Hannah and Charles yet. Have ordered Hannah and John Norman's marriage cert, but would like to find Hannah and Charles'. Opinions welcome ... Paul

This looks very possible, but it might also be possible that Hannah never officially became Mrs Hill. Have you looked for a death for the first husband? Perhaps he and Hannah just separated. nell

Thanks Nell, it does sound feasible - I just wish I had a Hill / Norman marriage to confirm it, but as you say they may never have married. I think John Norman went on till at least 1891. Thanks Jim, I hadnt found that record. I'm looking for him in 1871 now, as if my theory is correct then dad is lodging on his own, mum (hannah) is off with her fancy man, so where is William - in service somewhere ? At last a bit of mystery in my family :) Paul

how do you account for hannahs 2 different places of birth-these arent unusual marriage names.

Hi Alter The only 'odd' place of birth is Spratton. Spratton was where she was living in 1861, that is also where her husband was born - her son was also recorded as being born Spratton. I'm guessing (hoping) that is what the husband told the Census. (either Lazy or didnt know / care) :) Cheers...Paul
