hi Kate I have found Hugh Munro who was sailing in a ship called the Speedwell in 1758. He was the father of John Thomas Munro my GGGG father. Problem is I don't know who Hugh was. I have the ship's log with his name in it from 1758 and the cover says 'Sir Thomas Munro' . If he was Thomas and Hugh was his second name then he may have been the son, listed as lost at sea, of John Munro , son of George Munro of Culcairn who was the brother of the Baron of Foulis who was killed at Falkirk. If these assumptions are true then -yes- we should have inherited the title (if they were all legitimate) Lots of ifs I'm afraid. In the family we had a letter from the War Office of 1747 telling the family that George Munro had been killed in a matter of mistaken identity while riding a borrowed horse. This is the way that George Munro of Culcairn died and it's quite unusual so I assume it must be the same man. If I could just prove the connection between Thomas/Hugh and George! |

Jennifer, it must be FamilySearch. When I saw the title of your thread I thought you had found the 'missing link' in your Munro family tree to finally prove the connection with the gentry! How's it going? Kate. |

The family search site is the morman site. Go to the site given above and you'll recognise it. Toni |

It wasn't family search I don't think - it was given to me by a man on these boards some time ago and I could enter a surname and then look through parish records - I think it had something to do with the Mormon church site - possibly the source records for it. |

I used to have a link to free search on a website of parish records for marriages and births but it seems to have gone missing - can anyone help me with this please? |
