My great-grandfather John Royal Clark was an optician in the Islington/Clerkenwell area of London. There presumably weren't many opticians around then, but nevertheless he lived in a very poor part of Islington. Is there a guild or a trade register where I might find something about him or how opticians plied their trade in those days? |

Should have gone to SpecSavers! You could try the Institute of Opthalmic Opticians. |

I am not sure but he would have served an apprenticeship and apprenticeship records are kept at Kew. Good luck Irene |
