He is not on the census after 1871 and is married in Sth Aust 1888. I want to know if he is on your passenger list to Victoria. Also could you look for him to see if he may have married in Victoria? Hi Kerri I hit this South Australian brick wall some time back but your offer got me thinking maybe it is worth another look if you would be so kind. The person in question is my grandfather, Charles Frederick Engle who states on his sons birth certificate that he was born in Kadina in South Australia about 1880, although his marriage certificate indicates his birth was about 1882. I have previously cheched SAGS online records and couldn't find him and even the local S A history group couldn't offer any further information. He also states that his father Charles Henry Engle was a cattle salesman but I have not been able to track down any info on him or his wife in South Australia or any where else for that matter. If you could have a look for them for B D & M would be greatly appreciated Cheers John of Balmain Sydney

Hi Kerri, You seem to be my knight in shining armour, my husbands family originated from the UK but I can't get back that far because no-one can really remember a great detail of the SA bits. My in-laws went back to SA recently for a holiday and I sent them on a quest and they came back with names they got from grave sites and said yeah put them in they could be right, mmm. I believe that a Mr Bains married a McLaren and so whatever children they had where named ????? McLaren Bain, they found a few that had the name and they said they must be related !!!!!! If possibe could I take you up on the offer as I would love some confirmation, as I am not sure of Norman's parents names Name - Norman McLaren Bain Born - 1910 - 1954 I think his parents names were James McLaren Bain and Sarah ?? Hi John Sorry, I cant find his birth.There was only 1 birth for ENGLE -a girl. Searching the births I found Charles Frederick George HELSON ,father Charles Henry 1883 at Carrieton Frederick Charles ANNELLS ,father Charles Henry in 1884 at Gawler Also found marriage of Henry Charles Ernest NAGEL in 1867 I tried to look for something similar in surname,but this was as close as I could find.Tell me if you would like all details of above. Just another one if you don't mind going back to the Norman McLaren and you mentioned that he had an S next to his name which meant more info, where can i get this info from and do you know what it could be. Also on Norman again his parents you said where Martha and James Bain, do you have info on his Mother (James Bain Father) and any other sibling James may have had. Hi Kerri Thanks for your diligent research on Charles Frederick Engle and his father Charles Henry Engle. I have come accross a female by the name of Louisa Wilhelmina Engle who was the daughter of Johann Engle but the name reverts back to Engel for the rest of the children and it doesn't seem to fit. As for the others that you found, they are interesting connections but they don't seem to fit if Charles Frederick was telling the truth on his sons birth certificate about his birthplace and his fathers name. If not I think I am up the proverbial creek. One theory that a genes person came up with was that Charles Henrys fathers family came to England, stayed briefly than went to Australia using German names such as Claus Heinrich Engel and Claus Frederik Engel or something similar. But I just can't seem to get a handle on them which is a bit like a low level persistent toothache which I cant seem to get rid of, you know the story.
