Joanne I can assure you that mothers can become control freaks in these circumstances-they withold stuff and resent it being unearthed again, but you have your own rights and your father did care. Can you summarize your progress for me as there is too much wafle on this thread to sift through lol. I can help you.

Well Merry, you larf, but hubby lost something this morning. It was a two hour search, you should have seen his face as he pulled out sofas and the fluff under them were enough to stuff a matress, not to mention the bits of old soap down the back of the bathroom sink and so on. I did actually feel quite guilty and embarrassed. I think the half packet of biscuits under the sofa cushion was the ultimate embarrassment.

What a brilliant bit of inspiration, Heather! Maybe you should wash up more often?? **£$'%* **ouch** Merry

Hi Joanne Mum's can be so unhelpful! I have been trying to trace my Dad for some time, have even less info than you do and a mother that has conveniently a very poor memory. I have now gone to Traceline, run by the ONS Southport. The cost is £30, if they think they can help you. Might be worth a try? Good Luck, hope you soon track your father down. Chrissie

Joanne, this morning I was doing me washing up and I suddenly had a flash of genius!! ABBOTT and COSTELLO. They were very famous american comedien/actors in the 50's/60's. AND Costello's name was LOU. So I think you have found the right people!!!!!

The court should have kept the records. Contact them and they may be able to give you a copy of anything they have.

Ask your Mum for the papers realting to the court case as it may list his dependants if that affected his ability to pay for you.

I found the Greys to the Rowe on Ancestry, if you look at the dates though they must be to different families not the same one. Put an advert in Liverpools main paper asking for info on John C Grey born 1960 mothers maiden name Cunningham and get yourself a PO Box number from the post office for any replies that you may get, apart from that I think you may have a hard time finding him. And bear in mind he may not want to be found and may not have told his new family about you - sorry but that is th reality of it. We have never found my Hubby's Dad and with a name like his we are highly unlikley to Joanne
