master mariner help

My ggreatgrandfather was a master mariner he lived in Liverpool his name was Samuel Scott Arthur i cant find him on any census, he was proberly at sea, is there any way i could find out what ship he was on? |

Andrea You'd need to look up his seamans ticket from which you coould trace all his ships. So far all my mariners have been pre1837 (before they had tickets) so I dont know a huge amount about it other than they had to have one to work on board. Zoe |

They used to be held at the National Archives at Kew so I'd start there. If you go onto their webstite they probably have research guides for mariners Zoe |
