The morning after the night before and we are still none the wiser. Jess

Andrew

Andrew Report 17 Feb 2005 23:59

Marjorie, Please believe me that my posting at that other thread was misconstrued. When I typed 'to truly show how...' it was not in reference to the posting by Jess, it was in reference to the topic of the thread about people trying to sell census look ups etc on Ebay. My subsequent posting was partly to demostrate how posting on this board is far more value than bidding on ebay, and partly because I'd hit a brick wall. I did reply politely to the initial comments by Jess. Truly my last word on this thread. Goodnight all and may tomorrow be a sunny day for you all :-) Andy

An Olde Crone

An Olde Crone Report 17 Feb 2005 23:53

I find to my amazement that I am actually quite upset by all this. I stopped going on the General Board because of all the stupid squabbling - however, I don't think this is stupid, I think Jess has a valid point. Andrew re-posted ten minutes after his first posting, had I been able and inclined to help him I would have still been struggling to get onto Ancestry! And as for saying 'people are anonymous on this site and can say what they like' - er, what's anonymous about Jess? And why is she not allowed to be annoyed about her wasted efforts on your behalf? Andrew, it would have cost you absolutely nothing to have apologised more graciously to Jess. Your failure to do so will cost you dear, I think, should you ask for help in the future. I am not particularly taking sides, this is just my subjective reaction. Marjorie

I never did get an answer. Andrew, was the chap i found for you the correct one? Jess

Ellen

Ellen Report 17 Feb 2005 22:56

Didn't want to add my tuppence worth till everyone (including myself) had calmed down. Can see Jess's point Andrew - I took one look at your original post and thought I'd leave you to it (not that I'd probably be much help anyway!). You don't work in Sales by any chance do you? Its the kind of approach we'd use at work - but maybe doesn't work so well on here. Good luck to everyone - I'm glad the truce is called and we can all get back to being friends and helping each other. Cheers Ellen.

Andrew Report 17 Feb 2005 22:44

Simon, I see your point. I'm actually smiling at all this. I've heard of road rage (put someone behind steering wheel and all that) but I guess this is even more anonymous so people feel they can reply in anyway they feel. I wish they'd read each response carefully in the time they were posted. My last word on this thread. Good luck to everyone in their research. Regards, Andy (actually quite a nice bloke - so my wife tells me, fortunately)

Julie Report 17 Feb 2005 22:38

Andrew It was the added comments you made with it, thats the problem. Surly you can now see how it could offend, take another look at your comments. Julie

McDitzy Report 17 Feb 2005 22:35

Yeah.... a 'Thank you for the posting. However......' sounds like you were really appreciative.

Andrew

Andrew Report 17 Feb 2005 22:33

Julie, I did say thank you. And look at the response. Regards, Andy

McDitzy Report 17 Feb 2005 22:30

Your rude and inconsiderate responses, Andrew, come from 'you guys are so hilarious.... no, really, you are.' And you're saying that to someone who you want to help you? As for your post you mentioned, yes you did apologise, however you then added what suggests that you weren't happy with the information you were given and wanted more people to bend over backwards for you. You can group people into households on the 1901 via the census decoder. You could have looked yourself! You appear too idle to do so.

Julie

Julie Report 17 Feb 2005 22:30

Andrew you still can't say thankyou to Jess, can't beleive your so stubbon
