Tate & Lyle did have a factory in the Kirkdale area of Liverpool until approx. 1990's regards Libby

I think this is the site Louise means: http://www.mawer.clara.net/history.html apart from a database of 15000 german sugar workers, it also has lots of info. about the industry.

I think there was quite a big sugar industry in the area. My son works for Tate and Lyle in London, so I will ask him.

Hi All Does anyone know anymore about the above job/industry?? One of my rellies moved from Wales to Liverpool and this was his occupation in 1901. Was it a common industry in Liverpool at the time?? Any resources out there for more info?? Any help or direction would be wonderful!!! Sarah
