Contact one of the Kent archive/record offices - whichever is nearest the prison, and see if they have the prison register. I found several of my relatives in the Gloucester gaol register, the index to which is online via the Records Office. It gave the date they were imprisoned, why, a physical description - quite detailed - and the results of the trials. nell |

if you google ,prison inmates during the 19th century in Kent online there are quite a few sites |

Having discovered that my 2xGt.Grandfather was in prison on 1871 census in Gillingham, Kent, could anyone tell me how to find out more. Thanks Marjorie |
