how will I find service record with partal details

I am trying to find record of granda dickeson service history don't know regiment or service number partial date of birth. lived in sunderland or dalton le dale help please |

You could trawl the medal lists on the National Archives website and hopefully find someone with the right name and birthdate and in a regiment that would be likely for the area he lived in. |

You can also try the London Gazette. If he was awarded any honours/medals (not campaign) or mentioned in dispatches. He will be in that and you can get his Service number |
