Just got a new death certificate to decipher. Not only is the handwriting really tricky but I am baffled by cause of death - pulmonary phthisis haemoptysis ( I think!). This person lived in Manchester amd may have worked in the mills so I am guessing this is some sort of lung disease. They were only 29 years old at date of death. Thanks, Louise PS. Just added medical dictionary to my Christmas list! |

Hi Louise, Pulmonary is Lung, Pthisis is usually TB and haemoptisis is coughing up blood. So sounds like tuberculosis to me. Barbara |

Louise If you want medical terms in the future, try this site: www.paul_smith.doctors.org.uk/ArchaicMedicalTerms.htm TB was an extremely common killer until fairly recently. Other names for it are phthisis and consumption. nell |
