Programme introduced by Nick Hancock, who investigates jobs that no longer exist, based on the 1901 census. Monday: the Midlands Tuesday: Yorkshire and Lancashire Wednesday: East End of London Thursday: East Anglia Friday: Mining in Wales and the West Country Might be worth a listen, although it's on at a rather awkward time! |

Hi all I listened to this yesterday and it was interesting, covering the cutlery industry in Sheffield, potteries in the Midlands, framework knitters/lace makers in East Midlands, and Birmingham industries. They trotted out the classic 'sagger-maker's bottom knocker' but there were some other interesting job descriptions as well! This afternoon's will be the cotton industry in Lancs. Helen |
