Royal Navy Question?

I have on a birth certificate the rank and profession of a father. It reads S.B.C.P.O., R.N. I guess the R.N. stands for Royal Navy. Does anyone know what these abreviations stand for? Regards Margaret

I think the CPO stands for chief Petty officer. Not sure about other two letters linda

I did a quick search on google and came up with - Sick Berth Chief Petty Officer I assume this was a rank in the RN medical staff Cass

Or, as the 1901 census would put it (see my great uncle, William CHRISTMAS, age 30, born Portsea), "Lali Berth Steward". (Really, it does say that!) Christine
