Found a new one today - a man and a 14 year old lodger were both "CH number takers". They took the numbers of railway wagons and the numbers were sent to the Railway Clearing House (CH). Paid trainspotters!

You want to know what old occupations meant? Look no further ... Go to google and type in "old occupations", giving you a list of old jobs names and explains the meaning of them. Hope this helps... Caz

There's an article about framework knitters in this months "Your Family Tree" magazine £4.99 from WHSmiths. Knitting was one of the last fabric processes to be mechanised. Basically it is knitting with a machine! Anne PS No Karen, I don't think its the same a weaving. There were lots of them around the Nottingham area apparently.
