If I have a name birth year and place of birth before 1837 where can i get a birth certificate. |

You cannot get certificates as General Registration only became compulsory in July 1837. However you can get information from the Parish Registers, which are usually held at the relevant county record office. Maz. XX |

You may also get details on www.familysearch.org - it has many baptism records from the IGI (International Genealogy Index) but they need to be checked with the original registers. |

Hi Lesley, if you have place and date of birth,e-mail records office nearest to place of birth,they will probably be able to do copy of parish record.I had one done in Staffordshire,1812,only cost 70p,you probably wont find mother's maiden name on parish records. John |
