This site will give you the categories of wealth of the residents in London/Surrey streets, Charles Booth did the mapping and went around with the police on their beat, he gives a great insight into the housing and lowdown on the behaviour of the residents. There are digitised pages of the police books, maps colour coded according to wealth. It is a very interesting site. Go to http://booth[.]lse[.]ac[.]uk/ and click on the part you wish to view. You can type in your street in a search facility available on the police books section and it will give you all the mentions of that street and the page numbers.

I will check it out - I am Surrey born and have just discovered that my maternal great-grandparents are from St. Pancras. I know what the areas are like now, but it will be interesting to see what they were like back in their day.

how strange! i was looking at that site yesterday. i came across whilst searching for the street in Shoreditch that my great grandfather was born in. the street no longer exists but i found it on there with the comparison map. very good site.
