	LEGAL ADOPTIONS STARTED 1927 THROUGH 1926 ADOPTIONS ACT. I HAVE TRIED LOOKING FOR MY MOTHERS ADOPTION BUT I AM NOT ALLOWED TO FIND ANY INFO BECAUSE MY MOTHER DIED.IF YOUR AUNT IS ALIVE SHE IS ALLOWED TO GET ALL INFO.HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK SUE

Member Since: October 2003 Posts: 0 Send Message	I don't think "adoptions " were officially recorded in Britain till the 1920s . It usually consisted of a neighbour or family member taking the child in and just using their surname instead. Often the surname would be the same if child was adopted by grandparents etc.You could try searching the institutions in the area on the 1901 census but it could get expensive. KIM
