As a relative newbie I'm just starting to find my way around the search sites out there. Question I have - is it worth paying for Ancestry? Does it give you anymore than what you can find in other places (for free). Thanks. |

Hi Karen, I know it gives you the 1891 census, as a lot of kind people on this site will do look ups for you. You can get the free trial for a fortnight, to see how you get on. I would also like to know from anyone what else this site gives you ? Sue................... |

Dont forget that it says in the small print that taxes are added to the price as well. I opted for the quarterly payments to see if it was worth the money before commiting myself but I am now starting to worry because some people seem to have had difficulty when it comes to cancelling the subscription. |

I would say it was worth it for the 1891 census, and now they are beginning the 1871 census it should be even better value. Stan |

I use it all the time, excellent value, careful though the subscriptions are automatically renewed without notification. Suggest if you do decide to pay keep a copy of your registration on disc in case you want to stop in a year or so. Once you give your card details to a company they can automatically withdraw money from your account under the agreement and unless you notify them they will continue doing it. Ancestry is one of those. Gf |

I'd say; pay the money if you can afford it, I did and have found it useful. If the budget is a little tight, then there are plenty of us on here willing to do lookups... |
