Hi, I've also not had any luck with the Ancestry.com website in the past. Found the most helpful bit was the Civil Registration but didn't manage to find anyone I knew on the Census, also find it a bit difficult to follow. Have had more luck using their message boards. My family all originate from Wiltshire and I have now found most of them from 1891 Census just through posting messages on the Wiltshire Message Board and very kind people doing lookups for me. "I don't see how you can complain when something is a free trial." I think Nina you missed my point. I was merely pointing out that in my opinion it was not worth paying 119 Euros (about 70 pounds I think) a year for. I think it would be better to have a pay as you go access like 1901. I have now cancelled my subsription with no problems. I've got the pages I wanted for my research. I would advise trying the free trial but exercising caution before deciding to part with the full sign up fee.

Keely You can print out the census page. Jane Certificates are not available on Ancestry, the same info is there that is on freeBMD but you still need to send for the certificate. This is not the same as the census Margaret

Hi Keely You can print out a copy of the enumerators census page but no certificates. I am on day 4 of the 14 day trial and, although I haven't found any of the 8 people I desperately wanted to find, I did find that in 1891, my Nan's parents had a little boy called Ernest. If I hadn't looked at the 1891 census, I would never have known about him. He died prior to 1901 aged 4.

Keely I couldn't get on to the 14 day free trial but i think you only get the details required for you to order the certificate from the registry office. Jane

I have just subscribed to the free 14 day trial. I am quite new to all this, so sorry if this is a stupid question to ask! I thought that when you search the records, you have the option of printing out the actual document not just the index of names. is this correct??

I have also used the free trial on ancestry.co.uk and found lots of info from the 1891 census. I will pay to use the site again when I have enough info to look for. Maggy

Margaret I think it costs about £70 per year or £30 a quater.

Hi, I went in for the free trial, typed all my details including visa no, when I pressed to enter details other details came up i.e. Alabama and united States (I'm in England!)plus a different date on visa? They let me go into the site for about 5 minutes then it all dissappeared - I've tried emailing them - no luck - I am going to phone my bank - just in case. How much is a years subscription?

Kathryn You also get Births marriages and deaths and other stuff I haven't got to use it all yet. I paid for a year so have got plenty of time to find things. I'm really pleased with the info it has given me. It's certainly worth having a free trial.Lynda

Everyone always talks about the 1891 census, but is that all you get on your free trial? I could find most of my ancestors on it in one day.

I subscribe to the ancestry site and find the 1891 census invaluable. I have not been having any problems with access or locating my ancestors. Surprising really as most of them are Smiths! Sam

i also tried the free trial and would of been willing to pay the full price if the site was any good to me,i cancelled it after about a week as i also has problems with the site being down quite a lot then it kept asking me to log in when i already was.some of the names i found were "mine"but when i clicked to link it to the census page,the relative i was after wasnt on the page!

GC won't even let me type the C,O,M suffix on it's own!! What I was trying to write above was that both sites give access to the same info.

You can get to the free trial by typing 'ancestry free trial' into your search engine. You get the same info whether you go to com or couk. To be honest though, I am 7 days into my free trial and I am not impressed. The site is down a lot and when it is up some of the 1891 census images are very bad quality. Apart from that there is nothing else for the UK on the site that I can't get somewhere else. I would not pay for this site and will be cancelling my subcription way before the 14 days is up.

try ancestry(.)co(.)uk that has records for England etc.they were doing a 14 day free trial a couple of weeks ago,dont know if they still are though
