Hi

Can anyone advise where I can find information on air raid wardens killed in bombings in 1941.

I am looking for William Jordan an ARW killed in Newport, Gwent during a raid on the 1st July 1941. I'm trying to find out whether he was awarded a medal or not.

Thanks for any info.

There is an entry for him under civilian war dead on the CWGC site as follows:-

Name: JORDAN, WILLIAM HENRY
Initials: W H
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Civilian
Regiment/Service: Civilian War Dead
Age: 40
Date of Death: 01/07/1941
Additional information: Air Raid Warden. Son of Elizabeth Jordan, of 5 Downing Street, and of the late Walter Jordan; husband of Emily Louisa Jordan, of 50 Archibald Street. Died at Eveswell Street.
Casualty Type: Civilian War Dead
Reporting Authority: NEWPORT, COUNTY BOROUGH

Unfortunately no mention of a medal.

Suggest that you go to or contact the West Glamorgan Archive Service - online address :

http://www.swansea.gov.uk/westglamorganarchives/

though he was classified as Civilian stress that he was an ARP Warden.
