Pete, just a thought. Would you be able to see if his first wife Elizabeth is on the NBI for me as I think he remarried early 1800. Richard married Elizabeth in 1790? in Richmond..and then went on to marry Susannah but I have no other details. Richard had 6 children with Elizabeth the last one being born in 1806.
Thanks

Jolly Sailor and Athena. Thanks.
I don't think the 1837 one is mine but will send for the cert anyway and also his 2nd wife Susannah.
Am I right in thinking her death cert will give her maiden name or is that wishful thinking.

Richard's death is listed in the NBI

Name Richard STANFORD
Date 1 Jun 1837
Aged 72
Place Richmond
Description St Mary Magdalene
Denomination Anglican
County code SRY

It's really inconsiderate of our ancestors to die before censuses or civil registration. I have one who did just this too.

It's the only one for Richard Stanford in 1837.

LOL. Thanks though. I thought my luck had changed. Yep 1837 not 1937.

The wife's death cert would only say 'widow of'........and would not add to your knowledge.

Hi and Thanks for responding. Wouldn't I need a GRO Ref for a death cert for him and if so I haven't found one.

Hi
I am now at the wall with my line and wondered of anyone had any advice as to where I go now.
I can't confirm a DOB for 1767 and know that this person married twice. His second wife died in 1855 and what I'm wondering is what info would be on the death cert when I send for it. Would it just say 'widow of .....'. I have tried parish registers but no luck for Richmond, Surrey.
The person in question, Richard Stanford turned out to be a head shepherd for George 3rd at Oatlands Kew late 1700 into 1800. He died Jun 1937 so can't get a death cert for him.
Thanks in anticipation
Di
