Hi Ann

I knew we'd chatted before. Shame I couldn't say the same about Ian's beloved NUFC - they only managed a draw today!

He's shrugging up there somewhere - and giving the management the benefit of his wisdom. Loudly.

you take care too Sue - we are both singing off the same hymn sheet here! love him more than ever and even though he died in 2002 I still think of him every day - particularly today watching Wales beat Italy in the rugby - he would have been jumping up and down with sheer delight!!!

Hello Ann

Yes, we have spoken before.

I guess I feel the same as you - inordinately proud that Ian put his own fears to one side to look after me, when he knew he wouldn't be around to do the same thing. And did it all without me knowing a thing about it.

Funny - I loved him so very much when he was with me, but I love him even more now I really understand how much he cared.

Take care Ann

The nurse at our practise said the same Ann.....so many are coming forward who didn't before. That HAS to be a step forward.

I STILL don't particularly *like* Jade........obviously I don't KNOW her but she's not my sort of person from what i've SEEN of her. But good for her for what she's achieved.

I will be encouraging my girls to go for smears early regardless of whether the government deems it correct to screen them or not once they come of age.

She's left a wonderful legacy xx

Hi Sue, think we've spoken before

When my husband was diagnosed with an obscure rare terminal lung disease he too made lots of arrangements unbeknown to me - he left me financially secure and arranged for his brother to finish off all the things around the house and garden that needed doing - all this he did in a year, which was all he had after being diagnosed - what an absolute gem he was - on the 28th of this month it would have been our Golden Wedding anniversary and I shall be spending it with my thoughts of a wonderful and generous hearted man

my friend's daughter is a technician who reads the slides for cancer smears in Llandough Hospital here in Cardiff - she says that since Jade went public they have been inundated with unprecedented amounts of work - Jade has motivated people to go for smear tests - people who in many cases had never ever been before - she has my deepest admiration and I was one of those people who always changed channels when she came on!! Never judge a book by the cover

Hi All,

As a lot of you know, I lost my husband to cancer.

Unbeknown to me at the time, he spent a lot of effort when he knew what was coming, in arranging things so that I was ok, at least financially. Of course it didn't make up one jot for losing him, but he did it because he loved me. And knowing that is some strange comfort.

He couldn't change what was to be, so he did everything he could to protect me, when he wasn't going to be around to look after me himself.

I only hope that I'd be so unselfish.

I personally respect Jade Goody for thinking about her children's future at what must be such a painful, scary time for her.

That's a fair point Jean, they dont' have to be there do they, but then, dying womans wishes and all that, the papperazi don't need much excuse.

I'll be honest, thats the way I read this thread too, and apologise if I got it wrong.

I'm sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick Gwen...............maybe if you had posted this on the thread asking for a Jade day I would have understood straight away.

I took it to mean you begrudged Jade making money for her children when others can leave nothing for theirs as they are not in a the same position.

My mistake and I apologise wholeheartedly.

I realise that a lot of it has been because Jade wanted the publicity but I am of the opinion that it is now up to the media to take control and decide that enough is enough.

Jean.

As for the media backing away. They have. Jade is now at home spending her last days with her husband and family.

Yes the programes are still being broadcast, but the situation is now private as far as I know, and she will not be dying in front of the cameras.

I also think its not the media chasing her, but her decision to use the media, therefore its her call when they back off.

They have 'days' for cancer charities.

How many of us at work have a 'pink' day for breast cancer, and that raises money for research.

How many of us have done the race for life, or moonwalked? That is also to raise money and awareness of cancers, particularly womens cancers, such as breast and cervical.

Every year around this time the Prostate cancer charity has a charity week, still fronted by the late Bob Monkhouse.

I don't think we need a day dedicated to Jade, she is just one of millions of women who die every year. The whole point is that these events are dedicated to ALL cancer sufferers.

HIYA DIZZI,

I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY JADE IS DOING WHAT SHE IS DOING FOR HER SONS, BUT AGREE THAT ITS NOT SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE CAN DO. MANY PEOPLE DIE OF CANCER, TERRIFIED BY MONEY WORRIES, WHICH IS SO WRONG.

HOWEVER I AGREE WITH JEAN THAT I FEEL IT IS TIME THAT THE MEDIA BACKED AWAY WITH DIGNITY.

With you on that one Jean. Yes they are trying new treatments , some are preventative. My OH has Primary Thrombocytotis this can lead to Mycolide Leaukemia. His mother died of it and he has been monitored as a test subject for the past five years. On the 23 of March ..2 days after his 60th he is starting a tablet form of chemo to reduce his increasing platlette count..
This is just one way the NHS are working very hard in trying to identify and erradicate possible causes of cancer before the disease becomes incurable.
