Martina Cole's series of books are very gritty about life in the London underworld. One of my 91yr olds loves them!

Michael Dobbs' series of four books on Churchill mixing fact with fiction are excellent if you like anything to do with history.

Aileen, Martina Coles books knocked me sick with all the violence..plus the fact she seemed to repeat herself all the time... going over the same personality background of certain characters, same character description, just changing the wording each time i ended up skipping chunksover and over again... it got a bit annoying after the 3rd book.
Her stories are great.. good imagination, just not keen on her style of writing.

Suzian, yes absolutely, Kate was a lovely change, and i look forward to her next book

I havent read any Anne McCaffrey books but they sound good too!!

Clan of the cave bears series I read years ago I think they are in one of the boxes of books delegated to the attic lol

I do like Marian Keyes for if I want a bit of light reading they are quite good, if you want to borrow some let me know :o)

Aileen I think between my OH, You, David, Jac and Daff ill end up reading at least one of Pratchetts books just to see what all the fuss is about lol

I've never been able to read The Hobbit, but another 'oldie' that I (surprisingly) could read was the Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake.
This consists of (amazingly ) 3 books - Titus Groan, Gormenghast and Titus Alone.

Have you read the Kate Mosse books, Labyrinth & Sepulchre? If you like Dan Brown then am sure you will enjoy these if you haven't already.
For a good genealogy type story I would recommend Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden (set in Cornwalll, London & Oz). She also wrote The House at Riverton which I enjoyed too.

Only skim read so don't know if anyone else has suggested these. James Patterson he does the women's murder club and Alex Cross as well as a few stand alone book. Tess Gerittson is another good one.

A good author who isn't in the genres you mentioned is Jodi Picoult, she tackles some very sensitive subjects and makes you think. I think one of her books 'My Sister's Keeper' has been made into a film.

I have read Kate Mosse Labrynth and just recently purchased Sepulchre, I loved her first book.


and Cat...I read all of Tess Gerritson's books

I buy all my books in the charity shops or car boot sales.

Another book I couldn't put down was William Napier's Attilla, very well written and loved it.

I love reading too even as a child I always had me nose stuck in a book.

i once read a book and t was one of the best book i ever read but i dont recall what it was called haha

was about a little gidl who had been murdered and the author for years suspected her dad and her fmaily disowned her she wrote a book about it her father later admited 30 years later he did it
