Uggers

Do you ever find that your instinctive early impressions of people are the right ones? I often go on to think people are ok or not after a time but nearly always end up going back to what my instinct told me eventually.

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 24 Jan 2010 18:29

I've learnt many times, a long long time ago - to always trust my first instincts - they've never let me down yet :O)

Yes seems to be the case with me. I always have a feeling about a particular person and like you put it aside then to discover that I should have gone with first impressions.

SheilaSomerset Report 24 Jan 2010 18:31

Sometimes, but not always, but then sometimes you never get to know someone well enough to judge whether your impressions were correct ;-)) - we rarely know everything about a person.

Uggers

Uggers Report 24 Jan 2010 18:32

I must be too optimistic about people cos I'm always giving in and ignoring my instincts:)

Uggers

Uggers Report 24 Jan 2010 18:33

No, I agree Sheila - but I'm thinking more of whether other people are my sort of person in terms of personality and behaviour. And whether they just pee me off:)

Janetx

Janetx Report 24 Jan 2010 18:33

There are a few things that i go on ....People that do not make eye contact with me when speaking.....grrrr that just annoys me...

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 24 Jan 2010 18:33

I'm a bit reserved when it comes to " new " people but I do trust my instinct about first impressions generally . I have had to have a re-think on occasion but on the whole I normally find my first impression was the correct one .

Rambling Report 24 Jan 2010 18:33

I have very rarely found that my first instinct was wrong on someone ... I have on occassion modified that opinion over a period of time ( usually thought they were nicer than I first thought based on what other people have said of them ) but it always comes back to bite me that I was right the first time!

Uggers Report 24 Jan 2010 18:34

But do you ever get swayed, Sylvia?

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 24 Jan 2010 18:34

i often change my mind
when i get to know somebody better
it depends on how people are with me

you can often find a friends in the strangest places

but sometimes i let others sway me to much

maybe its best to listen with my own ears
rather than somebody elses

StrayKitten Report 24 Jan 2010 18:34

i always give in, and sometimes my instinct has been wrong, and iv become great friends will people, that at first i disliked,
othertimes, iv liked people n been totally wrong lol

so bit of a mix and match x

Uggers

Uggers Report 24 Jan 2010 18:36

Janet, I sometimes find not making eye contact is a lack of confidence thing and the person takes a bit more getting to know.

Rose, that's a much less black and white version of what I am saying and probably what I mean if I were to think about it more:)

Amanda, I get the impression that you like most people;)

Fiona aka Ruby Report 24 Jan 2010 18:36

I have overridden my first instincts when I've wanted to like someone, but I've usually ended up wishing I'd listened to myself in the first place!

Janetx

Janetx Report 24 Jan 2010 18:37

Maybe Uggers but I tend to be more unsure about that person because of that..

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 24 Jan 2010 18:38

In general, people 'pee me off' anyway Uggers, lol!! Prefer dogs.

Uggers

Uggers Report 24 Jan 2010 18:38

Joy, yeah you can find mates in odd places:)

Stray, there's a girl I was out with on Friday night who I didn't like when I first met her - then my oh pointed out it was the same attitude I come across with and I saw her differently - we're really good mates now. So there are exceptions:))

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 24 Jan 2010 18:39

Lol Uggers......thats a nice impression for me to give then : )) but strictly speaking it's not right . If I don't like someone I simply ignore them completely ( such as the neighbours both side of my house ....lol ) . I can't be bothered with feelings of hate etc , it's just a waste of time and energy .

Uggers

Uggers Report 24 Jan 2010 18:40

Fi, isn't it funny that sometimes we really want to like someone lol

I prefer dead ancestors on the whole, Sheila - they don't need walking.

I don't ignore my first instincts Uggers as they're usually pretty accurate.

People sometimes say that I only see the good in people, I don't think that's the case at all - I do see people's faults but just tend to focus on the good points. After-all we are all human and we have our faults :)

It doesn't mean that I ignore people's faults either.
