He's banging on about the ability and intent to have WMD's. He's avoiding the issue of his saying that he HAD them!

OK Saddam wasn't co-operating with the weapons inspection, refused interviews with key people, refused to show paperwork, but he didn't have them while Bush and Blair insisted he did and was concealing them.

He was playing cat and mouse with them...and in that light succeeded.

Well so far...I can see, inasmuch as he really believed there was a real and significant threat, why he went ahead with the invasion of Iraq. But for me, he still hasn't justified that action.

I think the questioning may become a little harder this afternoon....and I have a feeling that he may be called back later in the year.

I cant help but look at him and of think of all the men & women soldiers that have died.

My friends son is out their in Afghanistan and is petrified of having that phone call !

How sad is that.........Tony

Sorry going off the subject a bit.......but I seen enough of Tony switching off now.

Why is he now talking about the RISK of WMD's? Before the invasion everyone was saying there is strong evidence of the existences of WMD's in Iraq. We now know there were none, but it still went ahead. When is he going to answer it properly?

He's getting flustered...trying to quote but he's being pushed and he doesn't like it lol.

I did think that I couldn't wait to hear Tony Blair's explanation of how he came to his decisions........but after listening to others.......I have decided not to bother......it will all be scripted anyway, he has had plenty of time with his lawyer wife to decide how to frame his answers in order to come out looking like a good guy.....

.....I just don't feel like being wound up today, might throw something at the telly....

Yep, they are not pushing him, it's all very mild and nice. I wonder if there will be some more pushing later in the day...

GRMarilyn

They seem to be letting him talk too much, instead of asking questions !

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 29 Jan 2010 10:50

Hmm, well nothing new has really come out this morning. The perception of the situation in Iraq apparently changed immediately after 9/11. He didn't answer the question when asked what the link between Saddam's regime in Iraq had to do with Al Queda activities elsewhere and in Afghanistan.

He's admitted to making a mistake in a BBC interview with Fern Britten, in that he said he would have gone into Iraq even if WMD's were proved not to have existed, and that he had not used the words 'regime change' when he should have. But he glossed over that too.

He did say it was to deal with the regime in Iraq, and that the threat of a brutal regime WITH WMD's was huge....

LOL susan I'm not bothered about somebody holding an alternative view to mine......certainly am not about to take it personally !!

I totally disagree with your views.....but then I most definately am not a socialist so I would do !! But that's politics for you !!!!

...back to the inquiry.....I see he turned up 2 hrs early to give evidence and went in through the back door therefore avoiding the protestors......
